The Opportunity:  Twenty years after rock and roll pioneer Roy Orbison's death, Sony Legacy and Barbara Orbison were ready to introduce his music to a new generation. They wanted to issue a definitive anthology and an accompanying book – quickly.

We needed to create a product that would provide something new to Orbison’s established fan base, attract new listeners and be a music resource for libraries and schools. 

The LTC Approach: By emphasizing the definitive, all-inclusive nature of the anthology – as well as the Orbison family’s involvement – the Orbison box set was positioned as the ultimate package for fans and collectors. The four-disc anthology, which spans Orbison's career (1955 –1988), features his hits (i.e. "Oh, Pretty Woman," "Only The Lonely" and “You Got It”), as well as 12 previously unreleased tracks to appeal to longtime Orbison fans. In addition, we collaborated with Barbara Orbison and Roy Orbison Jr. to produce the set’s accompanying 96-page book, which features liner notes written by Ms. Orbison, Roy Jr. and producer Fred Foster, as well as testimonials from celebrity fans and photos from Orbison's career and family life.

The Results: “Roy Orbison: The Soul of Rock and Roll” has received rave reviews from fans and music critics, earning a rare five-star rating from “Rolling Stone.” Barbara Orbison’s QVC appearance sold 100 box sets per minute. The network’s entire allotment sold within the week.

The Awards: Our work on the box set has earned two Gold ADDY® Awards, recognizing creative excellence in advertising. CASE Award 2009: Best of Products & Packaging, CASE Award 2009: Best of Media Packaging; and Nashville Music Awards 2009 Poster / Album Artwork / Packaging of the Year.
